Armand Silvestre

The dove

With its soft and plaintive song,
this white dove makes you envious:
if it pleases you to have it captive,
I shall go to fetch it for you, Sylvie.

But there near you in my breast,
like that dove, my heart is singing,
if it pleases you to play the thief,
it would be better yours, wicked girl.

For it to be like a white dove,
the prisoner which you conceal,
upon my heart, trembling little bird,
place your hands like two wings.
